化工巨头考虑申请破产保护
据知情人士称，全球第三大独立化工企业LyondellBasell Industries周一对债权人表示，受销售额下滑和现金吃紧影响，该公司正在考虑申请破产保护。
知情人士称，总部位于荷兰的LyondellBasell拥有大量美国业务，已经聘请了破产法律顾问，并对债权人表示，公司正在尽力获得20亿美元破产融资。该公司可能即将根据《破产法》第11章申请破产保护。
过去一年中，化工行业备受打击；塑料等化工产品的主要原材料石油和天然气价格高企抬高了行业成本，而经济疲软又削弱了其产品需求。化工企业被迫减少预算并关闭生产设施。周日陶氏化学公司(Dow Chemical Co.)宣布，科威特放弃与该公司合资成立日用化工企业的交易，交易价值达数十亿美元。
LyondellBasell是去年荷兰化工企业Basell International Holdings BV出资127亿美元收购总部位于休斯顿的Lyondell Chemical Co.后成立的非上市企业。Basell出价为每股48美元，包含大约20%的溢价。由此产生的债务负担在公司销售额下滑的情况下显得过于沉重。LyondellBasell的网站显示，公司年销售额大约为540亿美元，有16,000名员工。
Basell是Access Industries旗下公司；Access由俄罗斯出生的实业家兰•布拉瓦特尼克(Len Blavatnik)创立，总部位于纽约。据知情人士称，Access已经聘请世达国际律师事务所(Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP)担任破产顾问；LyondellBasell已经聘请凯威莱德国际律师事务所(Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP)担任破产法律顾问；LyondellBasell还聘请了Evercore Partners Inc.担任财务顾问，并聘请AlixPartners协助进行公司重组。后三家公司或是拒绝置评，或是未回复要求置评的电话。
当然，聘请破产顾问也未必意味着公司计划根据破产法第11章申请破产保护。在某些情况下，破产顾问会帮助客户在庭外达成重组协议。
周二，LyondellBasell的发言人苏珊•莫尔(Susan Moore)拒绝就公司是否与债权人达成协议及是否聘请了破产律师置评。她说，不对传闻置评是公司规定。
过去三个月中，随着全球工业产值下滑，LyondellBasell的状况也迅速恶化。石油和天然气价格下滑帮助该公司削减了成本，但也导致其存货价值缩水，从而加大了该公司借款的难度，因为其信用在一定程度上取决于存货价值。据公司几位知情人士称，由于化工产品和大宗商品价格下跌，该公司被迫偿还贷款，以继续满足贷款条件。
